2008
This is the August 2008 Newsletter
GLB Newsletter for late August, 2008
We hope you have had a pleasant summer. We have a couple
of new e-books for your
reading pleasure. First, at the e-gay magazine web site, a historical novel
by Jack Newman called
"Blowing in the Wind," beginning in the mid-1800s in the deep
south of the U.S.; the civil
war was starting and a young black slave was falling in love with his young
white master
(and vice versa). It could and it did happen, and the story will hold you
in its grip until you
finish it. As the author says, "(It) is graphic in its description of male
homosexual love. Why?
Because it is my statement telling the world that it's okayjust
fineto love passionately,
even if you are homosexual. And it is possible to have total, unselfish,
and committed gay
love." Go to:
http://www.e-gaymag.com/toc.html
And the second novel is in the magazine's XXX category
(you must be adult to order it),
listed in the XXX Table of Contents:
http://www.e-gaymag.com/XXXtoc.html
This is a contemporary story of a young athlete who realizes
that he is getting turned on by
one of his father's college buddies, and what is this anyway?' His
eyes are opened when
they spend time together at a cabin in the southern California hills, and
it goes deeper when
he happens on a journal written by his father during his college days, filling
in a lot of gaps
that were never obvious before. That is why the title is "Frat House
Journals"; it was authored
by Glen Thompson. This is "one-handed reading."
And also, in line with the recession now abroad in most of our country, the
GLB books already
marked down have been marked down an additional increment at the web
site:
http://www.markeddownbooks.net
This is an unusual opportunity to replenish your library with the best in
g/l/b/t paperback books
at this very attractive price.

novella, two parallel stories
separated by many years and many miles. The direct link

.
Also there's a new edition of the award-winning Summer Club and the
Creatures
by James Richards, with a new cover (see below), a new introduction,

Summer
Club and the Creatures
Second Edition by James Richards
This is the May 2008 Newsletter from GLB Publishers
To bring you up to date, there are new e-books available at both e-book
magazines:
www.e-lesmag.com
"Waltzing with the Azaleas," a novella by Jo Lauer :
Cory doesn't know where he fits--nowhere, it seems, though he's been living
a gay
lifestyle since adolescence. Best friend, butch lesbian Jessica, accompanies
him on
a trip to claim his inheritance, which will allow him to finance a sex change
that will
test their friendship.
and
www.e-gaymag.com "But Not
For Me" by William Guarraia, a "long novel:"
The story of a teenaged boy sent to live with his sister and her husband.
The husband, a poor farmer, takes advantage of the boy's insecurities
and naivete to molest him. The molestations lead to a powerful mutual
passion and to confused feelings of uncertainty and love. The novel is
based
on first-hand experiences. The language is of the time and place, the farms
and forests of Michigan years ago.
Our last announcement was for
Basic Butch,
a short story collection by R.P.
Andrews, which is making a major impression these days. This is available
in both
print and e-book form. Click on the Title.

February 2008 Newsletter
It's been a couple of months since we last sent a letter out to our customers,
but affairs are
picking up more now. We are introducing a new book today, "Crossing Borders"
by Will
Carr who is now over 80 years old but his account is about a trip he, as
a 27 year old Jewish
man, took around the Mediterranean in the 1950s, looking for his place on
earth. He came
out during this trip and even there he is still going strong over 50 years
later. The book also
includes many pictures of people and sights that met his eyes and comparisons
with today
are very vivid. The reviewers who have reported have all been very enthusiastic
about this
book. You can get all the details at
www.glbpubs.com/borders.html .
See a picture of the cover below.
Our e-magazines (e-gaymag.com and e-lesmag.com) are also picking up more
interest and
you will want to check out what's new in that more intimate format.

GLB Newsletter, October, 2007
It has been several months since our last newsletter, so let's bring you
up to date. There is
a new novel, fresh from the printers, called "The King's Assassin" by Robert
Burdette Sweet.
http://www.glbpubs.com/king.html
The writer acts as a translator of a tale by a catholic priest sent on a
holy mission to India
in the 17th century, where he encounters a sensual challenge to his holy
assignment. The cover
is attached below, one painted by the author himself.
-----------------------
There is also a new e-book novel in the e-gaymag section, "Saying I Love
You" by William Guarraia.
"Saying I LoveYou" is the story of a great physical attraction which develops
between two
unlikely participants. One is a gay electrician, the other a rural hghway
worker married with
three children. Neither of them is very articulate. Each finds ways to say
"I love you" to each
other. Words are not the way. The action takes place in an isolated A-frame
located in the
woods of northern Michigan.

And we can announce the first of what will be many articles of interest at
our lesbian magazine,
http://www.e-lesmag.com/tocles.html
The title is "Smiles, Death, and Dreams" by Tanya Dehne. Following the suicide
of her ex-girlfriend,
Andrea embarks on a tumultuous journey through another desperate relationship,
and down the dark
corridor of self-destruction and mental illness. She begins to unravel
emotionally and mentally.
Rebelling against her powerful need to conform and be healthy, she plunges
into affairs and risky
behaviors with little regard as to the consequences. When these consequences
begin to spill over
on to her lover, Jen, however, Andrea admits her need for help, and begins
the long journey back to mental stability.

GLB Newsletter for February, 2007
Lots of news this month. Our newest book is just out: "Man In Shadow" novel
by Russell Thomas.
Peter is a respected PhD Professor of English at a midwestern college but
spends much of his
free time servicing straights and more inhibited gays in the parks, orgy
rooms, and arcade movies
in the darkness and shadows at night...until that special day when that special
guy, married with
two children, comes along. See the cover below.
This novel is an excellent example of what we call the
"maturation of gay/lesbian writing" now
occurring, which has become the subject of a special blog for writing and
writers and readers,
www.BLOGGLBT.com, to which you are all invited, both to read over and
contribute to. No more
are we only concentrating on how we are different from straights, but how
we are adapting to our
new lifestyle, ignoring the straights, and writing about it.
Three new e-books have also been added. See the GLB Home
Page [ www.glbpubs.com ]
or go to the new e-GayMag [ www.e-gaymag.com ] where we are adding about
one new e-book
per week.

GLB Newsletter for September, 2006
Announcing a new print and e-book novel, set in London, by a noted English
author: "Blasphemy" by Roger N. Taber. "Laurence Fisher, a gay Londoner stuck
in a go-nowhere job, is too wrapped up in his own unhappiness to spare concern
for anyone elseuntil he meets Danny, a street-wise troubled, hustling
kid in danger from pimps, drug dealers, and kidnappers. This is a suspenseful
action story where love intrudes after all and with a reach for freedom in
the British twenty-first century." Ralph Higgins, Wayves. Check out
< www.glbpubs.com/blas.html
>.
Print edition: US$ 15.95; in England 10.99. E-book-US $8.00.
Also a new contemporary e-book -- "Aristocrat"-- by the noted John Coriolan. The story of Trice, born in a small mid-west town, who soon recognized that he had (at least) one of the biggest tools around and decided to use it to become a classical actor. US$6.00.
See the cover graphics below.
Wayne has come up with another new short story from his days on an Australian nude beach: We added this one to the list and have just released a new e-book, a collection of Wayne's short stories from "down under", called "Wayne's World 1". All this is available at www.glbpubs.com/ww1.html
And one (actually two) new developments. We have two new web sites, associated with the GLB Publishers site, devoted to novella-length fiction (25,000 to 50,000 words) made available as e-books:< e-gaymag.com >and < e-lesmag.com >. We receive many of such manuscripts and they are too short to print (too thin a spine) but they are good gay and lesbian fiction, and the novella fits into today's schedule, sometimes easier than a full novel. See the GLB home page (www.glbpubs.com) for more info.

April Newsletter from GLB Publishers
Although it is the season, there is no April fool in the announcement that
we have two
new novels for your pleasure: "Beautiful Dreamers" from Chris Kent, the first
new
schoolboy novel from that author in many moons, and a new novel by the
highly
respected Robert Burdette Sweet, "Island Mambo." The book covers of these
new books
can be found at the foot of this letter (I hope).
Concerning "Beautiful Dreamers", David Chapman, who has
his finger on the schoolboy
fiction pulse, says, "Beautiful Dreamers depicts in unapologetic terms a
world with
changing boundaries, where some of the adolescent boys choose to dally with
willing,
mature men. But this is not a tawdry tale of young victims lured into
destructive
relationships; in fact, the young students of Bruce Academy are frequently
the sexual
aggressors. As usual with Chris Kent's fiction, the plot is engaging, the
characters are
believable, and the sex scenes are torrid. The jail bait are in control,
and they play a
dangerous game with each other and their older lovers. This is uncertain
territory that
may create some degree of controversy."
Canadian Ralph Higgins, who has become a perceptive and
dependable reviewer in his
own right, has said about "Island Mambo": "Robert Burdette Sweet is a skilled
writer
and one who delights in challenging our assumptions about civilization. In
"Island
Mambo," he takes on Nature versus Nurture by showing what happens when
so-called
civilized people are taken out of their familiar surroundings and forced
to learn to play
the game of life and death with all the rules changed . Who can they turn
to now? The
strange woman called the Mambo whose roots are elemental and who may have
a
connection with his death? Lenny, Edgar's native servant, his lover and executor
of his
will? Staying alive may require trusting in unseen forces and leaving the
known safe
world behind.
"A suspenseful novel with a murder at its centre, Island
Mambo leads the reader on a
bizarre, almost hallucinatory journey into our inner fears and drives and
gives a vision of
how we might act if we knew no one was watching."
One step of progress. The Gay History Writers Project
has opened a new site for Richard
Amory, author of the famous Loon Series and many more gay books. The new
site
includes one of his later novels, "Frost," plus an Introduction by the author's
son (soon).
There will be more to come.
And one more development: A new project (listed on the GLB Home Page) has
started to
publish (as e-books) humorous short stories by readers on their "coming out"
for both
men and women. There may also be a version for transsexuals if we receive
appropriate
short stories. See the full explanation on the web site:

Newsletter for February, 2006
Announcing the next new book from GLB Publishers:
You may be aware of GLB Publishers' project for Gay History fiction revival
presentations
of e-books online, but this is a step toward reviving print publishing of
some novels from
the 1960s: the new print book title is
"Tales From C.A. M.
P.: Jackie's Back!"
Whether or not you remember the Jackie Holmes' mysteries of those years,
they will fascinate you when
Jackie (and Sophie, the white poodle) takes on the villains of the non-gay
world (such as
B.U.T.C.H.) and comes up smiling, after struggling mightily with the evil,
straight denizens, with
lines like, "What'll it be, boys, heads or tails?" This perfect-bound volume
includes three
leading novels from the original series: "Rally Round the Fag" (Jackie goes
in drag to foil an
international plot), "Blow the Man Down" (Mother Schmucker from the
underwater
"Atlantis" is foiled in an attempted world-wide take-over), and "Gothic Gaye"
(there are mysterious
goings-on and B.U.T.C.H. agents at the famous castle of Baron von der Gout).
The author,
Victor J. Banis, also follows up with a summary and critique of all these
shenanigans, including
the struggles as they happened in the 1960s, in a section called, "An Accidental
Hero."
See the attached front cover graphic.
2005
This is the final GLB newsletter of 2005. Thanks for being with us.
The main news this time is the availability of a new e-book web site, part
of the Gay
History Writers Project to celebrate and revive some of the gay/lesbian writings
of the
mid-twentieth century. We have been able to bring back some books by Victor
J. Banis,
whose pseudonym was Don Holliday when writing the C.A.M.P. series of books,
with
the famed character, Jackie Holmes, ably assisted by his white poodle, Sophie,
who saved
the gay community from the ravages of all kinds of societies' threats, such
as the rival
anti-gay organization, B.U.T.C.H. If you were never exposed to the C.A.M.P.
books, you
have a treat in store, and if you have a vague recollection of them, you
will greatly enjoy
reading them again. I know I did. See the original covers in the graphics
below. We will
also have an announcement next year regarding reprinting some of these great
books of
the 1960s. These e-books can be found at the author's Gay History site:
http://www.victorjbanis.com
More information with the list of writers now included is provided at the
headquarters:

And again, Happy Holidays and the Best for 2006!
GLB Publishers Newsletter # 11 for October-November, 2005
This time we are making a splash about e-books, to which we don't normally
give the
credit they deserve. On our home site (glbpubs.com) is a "self-help" e-book
by Craig
Curtis, who is noted far and wide for his previous book, "Fabulous Hell."
When we say
"self-help" it is in quotation marks because that may be a matter of opinion
with an opus
called "I Told You I Love You Now Get Out!," as only the acerbic, witty,
master of gay
camp could express it. The "cover" graphic (also available to download) below
will give
you some idea. Check it out at
http://www.glbpubs.com/ityilyngo.html
.
We have also expanded the Gay History Writers e-book Project, bringing Barton
Lewis'
list to 8 e-books (in as many formats) at
http://www.bartonlewis.com and adding
a new
author, Dirk Vanden, author of noted novels of the 1970-era including "I
Want It All,"
"All Or Nothing," etc. at
http://www.dirkvanden.com . These
are full novels that set
trends and opened doors in gay writing in those time frames. More will be
added in the
future. And there's the original of this Gay History series, John Coriolan's
unique works
at http://www.johncoriolan.com
.
There are also some new e-book short stories by Wayne at
Wayne's World Down Under.
If you haven't sampled our Australian fare, now's the time.
And in keeping with the season, we have renewed our availability of gift
certificates for
books and now also for the new e-book described in the first paragraph. It
would be
possible to arrange most of your Christmas shopping from your arm chair in
front of the
Internet screen this year, with books and e-books sent by keystrokes.
And by the way, happy holidays to you all.

This the GLB Publishers Newsletter #10 for September, 2005.
The headline is the release of the 10th book in the Dick Hardesty mystery
series by
Dorien Grey: "The Paper Mirror". This series has broken all records and still
is strong
on the best-seller list. To quote some of the pre-press reviewers:
"The plot is well constructed and intriguing. His characters are, as ever,
skillfully drawn."
Denise Pickles, Australia.
"As always, Dorien Grey offers splendid entertainment and enough plot twists
to qualify as rotini."
Elizabeth Burton.
"'The Paper Mirror' is the best to date... The characters are clever, often
conniving, excellently
masterminded, and thoroughly developed...an excellent choice for any who
enjoy a good mystery."
Mollie Martin.

San Francisco
This is GLB Publishers Newsletter Number 8, July, 2005.
The print news this month is the release of our latest novel, "Blood Warm"
by Robert Burdette
Sweet. < http://www.glbpubs.com/blood.html > (Robert Sweet
is also the author of the noted "White
Sambo" that we published about 10 years ago.) See the front cover at the
bottom of this page
(the author also painted the cover!) Probably the review by Ralph Higgins
sums the book
up best:
"Blood Warm" is a delight and Robert Burdette Sweet is
that rarest of rare birds, the born
storyteller. Writing with the skill and delicacy of a cloisonn artist and
yet with the bold surging
expressiveness of a fauve painter, Sweet creates a living, dancing, laughing,
loving world.
Bob Sweet, the narrator of "Blood Warm," has run away seeking oblivion. Bowed
by
responsibility, social constraints, his job and the pernicious influence
of his mother, he is
an alien in his own country. Sexually conflicted, stumbling and socially
clumsy, he escapes
to a tropical island hoping for peace and freedom. And we enter into this
lush, colourful world
with him. We see the sunset, feel the humidity among the tree ferns, our
feet move to the
compelling beat of the voodoo drums and our blood rushes at the sight of
the dark-skinned,
beautiful Junior. We even feel the strain of paradise when it becomes a cage.
Nothing is
accidental is this skillfully written, richly comic novel; each incident
follows another with
a natural inevitability and Sweet's characters are vivid and engaging: capricious
Jessamine,
willful Margo, the irritating Daisy and Edmond, the frightening mysterious
Lemba, and the
sweet and sexy Junior.
And, somehow, along the way, we fall in love with Bob.
- - - - - - - - -
Of course, as with almost all our books, "Blood Warm" is also available as
an e-book in your
choice among 8 formats.
- - - - - - - -
And there's more good news on the e-book front:
For the first time in many years, a new Bill Lee fiction, "Montana Mates," a 34,400 word novella about cowboys and Indians (literally), has been released as an e-book in your choice of format (8 choices offered). The young cowboy, raised on a ranch but routed into the bunkhouse with mature ranch hands at age 17, finds out how things work in man-to-man relationships just in time to respond to the chance encounter with a young Flathead Indian from a neighboring ranch in Montana. $4 for each format.
And here's something new that we don't think has been done before anywhere.
We are featuring a new book, a collection of short stories which are still
being written, developing as we speak, from a special gay writer in Australia
who is producing short stories from "down under". This book is called "Wayne's
World Down Under" (Volume 1)
and already has a group of gay men's short stories ready for downloading.
As more stories are written they will be added so it will pay to check back
often. Things don't work exactly the same in Australia as they do in most
of the rest of the world, we find, and the manners of expression are different,
too. We're sure you will be interested to sample Wayne's World, and the short
stories, as usual, are available for $1 each for each format.
MAY, 2005
Seventh GLB News, May., 2005
Hello again from GLB Publishers.
Many of our readers will receive the big news in this
letter with big smiles: announcing a
new Chris Kent fiction, "Bravehearts and Memories: Two Novellas,"
which contains both
the original "Bravehearts" novella (on boys' roles in the Scottish-English
revolution); also
a previously unpublished collection of memories of childhood, "Luverboy's
Memories," that
Chris Kent collected and brings to his readers with sincere hopes for increased
understanding
of kids. A 216-page paperback priced at US$14.95 for the print book, it will
also soon be
available in the UK and Europe for £10.50. The availability as a print
book in Australia is
uncertain, but it will be available world-wide as an e-book (in eight formats)
for US$ 8.00.
The latter work brought us to a new decision, to set
up a web site for Chris' books and also
a chat list for those interested in his work, and the much larger subject
of boys' sexuality and
problems so well publicized in some of the priests' scandals of recent years.
So we can also
announce the new web site (which is still somewhat under construction)
called
http://www.chriskentbooks.com
(what else could it be?). As mentioned on the web site, the
chat list can be joined by subscribing:
chriskentbooks-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
.
Hope you all have an interesting and comfortable season. (Since we have members
in Australia
and other down-under environs, we can't assume everyone is going into summer!)

Sixth GLB News, Feb., 2005
A short but important message to all our readers.
We are now celebrating the conclusion of our 15th year at GLB Publishers,
bringing what
we hope are good choices of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry print books
and e-books to g/l/b/t
readers throughout the world. We have a new seal to mark the celebration,
and we will be
placing one of these adhesive seals on all books leaving our offices for
this year, 2005. (We
have removed all attachments because of mail complexities in some recipients'
email boxes.)
We also want to mention that one of our books has been nominated for an award
by the
Lambda Literary Foundation for best 2004 book in the Gay Men's Mystery category:
Dorien
Grey's very popular The Role Players. The list of nominees
can be viewed at
http://www.lambdalit.org/lammy/finalists.html
Congratulations, Dorien! This is the third book from the Dick hardesty series
(now numbering
9 books in total) to be nominated over the past few years, and can be found
on the GLB web
site at
http://www.glbpubs.com/trp.html
The entire series has its own web site:
http://www.dickhardestymysteries.com
where all the books in the series are reviewed.
We hope you are having a good 2005 so far.

This is GLB Publishers' Newsletter # 4, Dec. 4, 2004 *
Based on your interest, or what we perceive as interest developing among
Internet users, we are in the process of adding a new format to our available
e-book format list, the Mobi-Pocket PRC format. This format can be used in
several different handheld reading devices and also on computer screens with
the MobiPocket Reader (similar to the MS Reader and Adobe Reader), free for
download to your computer. Conversion to these more complicated formats is
not always 100% successful, so first, our apologies if you run into trouble,
and second, please advise us if you have problems, since that is the only
way we have of finding out. We cannot do quality control on every possible
application. If you have a problem, we will correct the situation or provide
another format if necessary. Of course the cost for PRC e-books will be the
same as for all other formats. If you don't find the PRC format listed for
your choice of e-books during this prep period, drop us a note and we will
put your choice at the head of the line for conversion to PRC. Individual
short stories are not available in PRC but the collection of stories from
which they came is available as MobiPocket PRC.

We should also mention that we are offering gift certificates for all the
print books, just in time for the holiday season. Scroll to the bottom of
those books you've been considering and use the easy credit card system to
get some books on their way, for your friends or yourself. As usual, we don't
charge for shipping or tax for these purchases, unless you want Express or
Priority shipping.
------------------------
And of course, we want to wish all our readers and authors a happy holiday
season. Here is a link to a greeting card that our faithful helper picked
out at

A whole new genre, Gay
Gangsta novel by
Fredryk Traynor
This is GLB Publishers' Newsletter # 3, Oct. 20, 2004
We have a new book to announce, of course, but this is a special one. While
it is not the
first time we have published a first-of-its-kind, it is the first one like
this.
Some of you may be familiar with the hip-hop gangsta
movement, stemming at first
from the Rap singers but now making its way through the cultural trapdoors
as fiction
writing as well. Some say Vickie Stringer was first, writing her gritty "Let
That Be The
Reason" and selling the xeroxed copy from her car trunk, later adding more
books to her
list and founding her own publishing company for gangsta fiction, but probably
Donald
Goines was really first to describe the black street experience in words
that rang through
to the core. He was variously described as a pimp, thief, bootlegger, armed
robber, small
time dope dealer but also a great street-talk writer only discovered by the
mainstream
press and critical journals in recent years (he died in 1974). The rap songs
have taken up
the chant, and some of those that have threatened gays and queers have been
top sellers.
However, skip to the 21st Century and terms like Down
Low and Homothugs and it may
lead to where we are, announcing what we believe to be the first of its kind,
a Gay
Gangsta novel, set (where else?) in San Francisco, by Fredryk Traynor, fresh
from that
scene himself and knowledgeable about the details very similar to Goines,
but thirty
years later.
If you don't know much about the Gangsta story, do a
Yahoo or Google search for
Gangsta. You may learn more than you wanted to know, or you may be intrigued.
But I
can promise that you will be intrigued by the book, "Bless the Thugz and
Lil' Chil'rins,"
now available at GLB Publishers:
GLBPubs.
A few clips from reviewers comments: Deatri King-Bey
of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers says:
"It's a great story whose main characters, intelligent thugz with heart,
happened to be gay."
But of course no one "happens to be gay," we know that; Ralph Higgins says:
"Fredryk Traynor's skill creates a believable world of brutality, dark cruelty,
and nonchalant
acceptance of death, but he also makes us believe that there can exist, even
in these conditions,
kindness, caring, and family. And that love can come even to a gangsta faggot
and a badass thug."
As always, this novel is available as a paperback in
all bookstores and as an e-book download at our
web site. To add spice to the main dish, we extracted three short stories
by Fredryk Traynor
from previously-published GLB anthologies to add to the attraction, these
as e-book short
stories for downloading, found at
GLBPubs .
| We should also mention the new wrinkle (new to us) of offering gift
certificates for all the print books, just in time for the holiday season. Scroll to the bottom of those books you've been considering and use the easy credit card system to get some books on their way, for your friends or yourself. As usual, we don't charge for shipping or tax for these purchases, unless you want Express shipping. |
